Dr. Arvind Gupta is the Director of the Vivekananda International Foundation, New Delhi. During 2014-17, he was the Deputy National Security Advisor and Secretary, National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS). During 2012-14, he was Director-General of IDSA. He was Lal Bahadur Shastri Chair on National Security at the IDSA during 2008-2011. He was also the managing editor of Strategic Analysis, IDSA’s flagship academic journal. A former diplomat, he worked at the National Security Council Secretariat as a Joint Secretary on deputation from the Ministry of External Affairs during 1999-2007. He is an Honorary Professor in the Department of Defence and National Security Studies, Punjab University, Chandigarh. His book, How India Manages Its National Security, was published by Penguin India Ltd in 2018. He is the co-editor of the book India's Foreign Policy: Surviving in a Turbulent World, published by SAGE Publications India Pvt Ltd. in 2020.
